Why do the RTA in Dubai fail tyres due to age?
The Dubai RTA have very clear rules on tyre age that mean tyres more than four years old need to be changed. This is because the extreme summer heat of the Dubai roads has a detrimental effect on your tyres integrity, reliability and hence safety. When your car is used during the hot summer months the tyres become very soft which increases the wear. Over these four years, the effect of getting hot & soft, and then cooling down makes causes this loss of tyre integrity.
How can I tell the age of my tyres?
If you look at the Tyre wall there will be a series of numbers; as an example 215/60R15. 215 is the width of the tyre in millimeters. 60 is the aspect ratio or tyre profile. R means it is radial construction. 20 is the diameter of the wheel rim in inches.
There is a further number such as “3218”; the 32 is Week 32, 18 is Year 18.
